Be brave and call yourself a writer

Are you a writer, but dare not call yourself a writer?

For a long time I didn’t either, but then I got some great advice that changed my perspective on myself.

A junk writer

Until then, I could perhaps call myself a writer when I posted on my blog, but I was by no means an author. Not at all. Because I believed that you should be able to make a living from the writing and at least be a published author. That’s what I thought, and so did others from what I read online.

My attitude only had the negative effect that I didn’t take my writing seriously, even though I had a dream of being published.

A published author on the way

One day, I read that if you want to be a writer, you should call yourself a writer and you must say it out loud.

At first, I was thinking, this is silly. But the advice kept spinning in my mind so I pulled myself together, went to the mirror and then I said, “I’m a writer.”

I felt odd talking to myself, but I tried anyway, and after some time something happened with my self-understanding. I began to perceive myself as a writer, I began writing more, and I submitted a few stories.

Obviously, they were turned down, but because I took my writing seriously, I got a contact through an online course and soon I will have my second story published.

Now, it’s your turn. Go to the mirror, look straight into your eyes and say out loud “I’m a writer”.

Ah, oh, don’t whisper. Please try again. Really loud.

I AM A WRITER.

Did it work? How did you feel? I am so excited to hear in the comments.
